E-Tunnel

The construction works on the AVE high-speed line between Madrid and Galicia represent one of the greatest technical challenges ever faced by ADIF alta velocidad. This R&D project proposes a system based on maintaining continuous control over the air quality parameters inside the tunnel and an automatic regulation of air flows based on the real gas dilution needs at all times, with the consequent improvement of the working conditions and the energy efficiency of the installation.

JVVA developed the ventilation strategy that was used during the construction works for this high-speed rail tunnel with a length of more than 6km. We used advanced simulation techniques in conjunction with state-of-the-art gas dispersion modelling. The objective was creating a self-regulating algorithm that optimizes the energy use and maintenance needs for the ventilation equipment during the construction period.
